Dear ______,
I am a registered
voter in your county who is very concerned about the problems with
the electronic voting machines, the integrity of the election
process, and the accuracy of the vote count. I realize you have an
extremely difficult job to do and in terms of efficiency these
machines make your job much easier. They are, however, very
hackable and dangerous. Many computer experts I talk to say
these machines can be programmed to do anything and that the chances
of catching insider fraudulent vote-switching code are practically
impossible. Besides that, the machines are unreliable and practically
require private company experts to run the main tabulators. These
experts have 100% access to the vote counting software and could
program it, with no trail, to provide false results.
The extra
work that Secretary of State Debra Bowen is demanding may make your
job more difficult. However, Ms. Bowen is doing exactly what we
elected her to do - protecting our vote. I'm sure you'll agree
that in an election the most important thing is the sacredness of the
vote - that every vote must be counted as cast, accurately and
verifiably. The shoddy, insecure electronic voting machines and
their vendors have violated that trust.
I
appreciate all your hard work in having our elections run so well.
If you have been resisting the efforts of our California Secretary of
State, I urge you to stop and face the true, root cause of the
problem – the voting system vendors. If you have been cooperating
with the Secretary of State, I thank you and hope you will continue.
Let’s make our elections a model for the country - accurate,
verifiable, auditable, with all who want to vote able to vote and
have their votes counted as cast.
