LETTERS TO COUNTY ELECTION OFFICIALS - General and Negative

Dear __________,

Please stop your resistance, smears and whining about the actions of Secretary of State Debra Bowen. When she performed her top to bottom review and conditionally re-certified the voting machines, the Napa County Registrar had the gall to say, “Shame on you Debra Bowen.” Before the February 5th election, the newspapers were full of predictions from County elections officials with a virtual tidal wave of “the sky is falling” whining, because election results might not be available immediately. It is appalling that three counties even sued the Secretary of State.

Well look what happened: the election was certified on time, the court has thrown out the suits for lack of merit, and Secretary of State Bowen has won the John F. Kennedy Profiles in Courage award for standing up to the resistance she faced from voting machine vendors and elections officials like you.

Please face the real enemy – those smooth talking companies that sold you the machines and promised you the world. Do you really still have control over your elections or do you need vendor employees or outside consultants to run them for you? Do you have the proper use procedures from the company to make sure their systems are secure? How much are you paying on maintenance and service contracts? What is the service contract cost for a pencil and paper?

Stop wasting your time and our money. Period.
