Resolution of
the Wellstone Democratic Renewal Club
in Support of Occupy
Oakland
October 27th, 2011
Whereas, Occupy Oakland, a local manifestation of the Occupy
Wall Street movement, is a response to the vast economic
and social divide between the 99% of Americans who are
suffering under the impact of the current economic crisis
and the 1% who have gained as a consequence of that crisis;
and
Whereas, This spirit, here in Oakland, of Occupy Wall
Street has helped to crystallize and unify the movements
for progressive social change; and
Whereas, The City of Oakland, continuing to struggle for
new jobs, funding for schools, health care, and the social
safety net, should be excited by and supportive of this
new movement; and
Whereas, Instead, the City of Oakland authorized a violent
police attack upon the Occupy Oakland encampment, in violation
of its own agreed upon crowd control protocols according
to the Negotiated Settlement Agreement, resulting in arrests,
hospitalization, and property destruction; and
Whereas, As a victim of this police violence, Scott Olsen,
a veteran of the war in Iraq, is in critical condition
at Highland Hospital;
Whereas, Occupy Oakland has issued a call for an Oakland
General Strike on Wednesday, November 2;
Therefore Be It Resolved
That the Wellstone Democratic Renewal Club regards Occupy
Oakland as an important galvanizing and unifying force
in the ongoing struggle for economic and social justice
in the Bay Area; and
Be It Further Resolved
That the Wellstone Democratic Renewal Club supports the
call for the November 2nd Oakland General Strike; and
Be It Further Resolved
That the Wellstone Democratic Renewal Club condemns the
use of police violence against peaceful demonstrators and
demands an public investigation into this violence; and
Be It Further Resolved
That the Wellstone Democratic Renewal Club calls upon the
Mayor Quan and Police Chief Jordan to release all arrestees
without charges and restore all property of Occupy Oakland
and its supporters seized by the police during their action
of October 25th; and

That the Wellstone Democratic Renewal Club calls upon the
Mayor Quan and Police Chief Jordan to negotiate in good
faith with Occupy Oakland.
